Brutal truth, our hair is always growing. However, so many of us suffer from breakage that we never see a change in our hair length or hair growth.

For years, I struggled with hair growth. I felt so ugly sometimes.

I could never get my hair to grow past my neck and the constant breakage was embarrassing.

Have you been struggling with hair growth? Constant breakage and thinness?

Yeah, me too. But that was until I discovered rice water and the benefit it has for hair growth. It is literally a life changer.

In this post I’m going to share with you the real deal about rice water and the change I have seen in my natural hair.

WARNING! I do NOT relax my hair, nor do I straighten it often.

The journey you will see is what I did to my hair for 12 months and the before and after.

So, if you’re looking for the honest truth about rice water, keep reading.

What Is Rice Water?

Rice water is a fermented rice and water solution that has been used for centuries.

Why is it so great? What type of hair will it benefit? Is there any good results?

All of these things were questions that were going through my mind when I first discovered rice water.

Hair growth can be a struggle at times but as I began to research on how to grow my hair, I stumbled upon rice water. Almost everybody has been talking about rice water.

Here is a look at my before

Before Rice water: Straightened Hair w/ Split Ends

My hair before using rice water
This was before I started the rice water.

My hair was in its transitioning stage.

This means that I was getting rid of all of my old, relaxed hair.

My natural hair was growing in on the top.

My hair, with all those dead ends, was at my neck.

Rice Water Recipe: How do you make it?

  1. Get about 2 cups of rice for every 1 cup of water that you use
  2. Rinse your rice (doesn’t matter what kind)
  3. Place rice in a container with appropriate amount of water
  4. Soak for 30 minutes
  5. After, message the rice into the water.
  6. Add an extra 2 cups of water plus essential oil (I added 1 Tbsp. of Amla oil and 20 drops of Peppermint oil)
  7. Close the container with an airtight lid (chose an airtight container so that the rice water can ferment)
  8. Leave to ferment for 24-48 hours in room temperature
  9. When the fermentation process is done, you should see bubbles at the top
  10. Stir the mixture and filter the water in a spray bottle
  11. Keep the rice water in the refrigerator, if not, it will STINK!

Peppermint oil will mask the smell of fermented rice water and penetrates the scalp causing blood flow that increases hair growth.

Amla oil is a traditional oil that has been used for centuries to increase hair growth while adding shine.

I currently use the Dabur Amla oil that was recommended to me by my Pakistani friend. I sprayed my hair and roots with the mixture and massage my scalp twice daily.

My Rice Water Hair Growth Challenge Results!

Rice water has so many amazing benefits and is a straight shoot of nutrients penetrating your scalp.

Since using the rice water I’ve noticed that my hair has become stronger and less prone to damage.

There is a luxurious shine and elasticity to my hair which makes it very easy to be detangled.

Within these 12 months, the rice water has given me a noticeable change in my hair. I went to the hairdresser and got a silk press on my hair.

I cut off all of my old transitioning hair and now my hair is all natural. With the conjunction of my hair growth vitamins, I have noticed a huge difference in my hair.

My Hair After the Rice Water:

My progress using rice water

All of my old dead hair has been cut off. This is all my new, natural hair.

I do not straighten my hair often at all, that helps with the health of my hair.

But, in this picture, my hair is all natural. There is no old transitioning hair, split ends, nothing.

Honestly, I still continue to use rice water because it has helped with the elasticity, strength, shine and general growth of my hair.

I love it and it is so easy to make. One of the biggest benefits was adding the peppermint oil to it.

By also adding the peppermint oil, the blood flow to my scalp boosts hair growth as well.

You can add peppermint oil to any of your hair products to see a dramatic difference as well. Get yours here and it will seriously change your life!

Your hair will never look as luxurious and life changing until you try rice water and peppermint oil!

Pros and Cons of Rice Water:

Pro: It is a game changer in hair growth and hair health, literally. Your hair will grow like weeds with this recipe.

There are a few things that you should be aware of as it is fermented. Keep the rice water in the fridge as it will start to have a weird stinky smell.

Nobody wants nasty smelling hair. That’s another reason why I put a lot of peppermint oil into the mixture, so there’s no smell!

Con: If you do not use essential oil or refrigerate your rice water, it will stink. Plus, your hair will smell so bad for days if you don’t. Use your peppermint oil guys and refrigerate it!

Another thing to be aware of is that I prefer to change the smell of the rice water. It all depends on what I put into it as the water is being fermented.

I like to add the peppermint oil because when you spray your hair it causes a tingle onto your scalp and increases the blood flow which causes more hair growth.

You can also add orange peels or lemon essential oil, tea tree or lavender!

Pro: You can make it smell amazing and it tingles your scalp for increased blood flow.

There really are not many cons about rice water since it is fantastic, the only con is the smell if you don’t use PURE essential oil and don’t refrigerate it. But compared to the pros like:

  1. Increased hair growth
  2. More elasticity
  3. Increased strength
  4. Thicker hair
  5. More luster
  6. Protein treatment

It is worth it!

Is Rice Water for You?

The short answer is YES, it works on all hair types! So, make sure you download the rice water recipe book here!

Summary of Rice Water and Why Your Hair Needs It?

Now I’m not sure if you ever made it before but is a very simple process.

You just wash the rice and then let the rice sit in room temperature water for approximately 24-48 hours in a closed, airtight container.

That will begin the fermenting process and when you open it up within 24 hours there should be bubbles at the top of the water.

All that is just the fermented nutrition, and it should be a cloudy white color. Now again, when you use fermented rice, it is a lot more potent than regular rice water, so it does take a little bit longer to make but it works way better.

You will experience an extra inch in a week!

Only make this if you really want to grow your hair faster and longer because it is so strong that it will grow your hair at it extremely fast rate.

But I also prefer making sure that you are taking some type of vitamins as well and it will continue to stimulate hair growth and helping your hair from the inside out.
